Wanted
"Wanted" is a top-down stealth survival game developed in one week for the Tyne to Game game jam for the theme, "No Escape". This game was developed solely by myself using Unity 6. Test your ability to evade an escalating police presence as they hunt you down in a procedurally generated environment. Matching the theme, last as long as you can to avoid your inevitable arrest.

Gameplay Overview
You're on the run. The core of the game involves careful movement, using the environment for cover, and managing your stamina to avoid capture by an alert police force.
Key Features
Dynamic Stealth System - Utilize trees for effective cover. When hidden amongst foliage, officers will take significantly longer to spot you, and helicopters will lose the ability to see you entirely.
Adaptive Police AI - Face a coordinated police response. Officers patrol designated areas, investigate your last known location, and will pursue on sight, deploying tools like proximity mines and radars to assist. Police Cars arrive as reinforcements, strategically park, and deploy additional units. Meanwhile, Helicopters conduct relentless aerial searches using powerful spotlights that have a high chance of spotting you quickly if you're caught in the open.
Procedurally Generated World - Each playthrough offers a unique layout of trees. This procedural generation enhances replayability and ensures your strategic approach must slightly adapt each round.
Stamina Management - Sprinting is crucial for quick escapes but rapidly depletes your stamina. To evade arrest, find and consume cherries scattered throughout the map to replenish your energy.
Escalating Alert System - A detection meter visually tracks how aware the police are of your presence. If this meter fills, your position is compromised, and all nearby units will immediately converge on you.
Advanced 2D Navigation - Police officers navigate the environment reliably, thanks to a 2D pathfinding system powered by the NavMeshPlus plugin for Unity.
Clear Consequence of Capture - There's no escape once caught. Direct contact with a police officer results in your immediate arrest, making evasion for as long as possible your primary objective.
Development Context
For this game jam, I wanted to achieve an immersive and graphically-consistent game. I did 2 passthroughs for almost all graphics shown in the game to help me achieve this, while browsing SFX and Music to complement the visual aspect. While using graphics and audio to create a believable experience, I utilised a lot of features around Unity lights in a 2D space to support it. I used lights to bring liveliness to some assets, and realistic interactions with others. This includes using lights to cast shadows through trees, while retaining the tree top to be rendered above the light, only allowing the stem of the trees to be interacted with. I used coloured lighting for many assets to create a visually interesting scene, mainly with police lights used on the cars and helicopters.
This game is also open-source using the MIT license and can be viewed here - OliverNealDev/Wanted. Do note that this project was rushed throughout the game jam, so the codebase will not be as organised as it should be.

HIGHSCORE 06:39
The games is incredibly cool. Very neat concept and impressive how it was done in only a week. I really enjoyed the gameplay and each mechanic is very solid and well-implemented. Not sure how well balanced it is during late game (around 4th minute), however it does make the gameplay interesting and more strategic.
I appreciate the comment! Late game is definitely leaning on the RNG side in terms of officers zerging you from random angles, and 6:39 is an insane score that surpasses even my own playtests...
